In a job search, your resume is usually the first contact an employer has with
you. You want your resume to make a great first impression and to stand out
from all the others. Some of the tips from our professional recruiters include:
-
Make sure your resume contains accurate contact information
including a professional email address. It doesn’t help to have a resume make
the first cut, only to have a potential employer unable to contact you. All
your contact information should go be the top of your resume.
-
Include a “Professional Summary”. A few lines describing your
capabilities can help a manager decide if you are the right person for the job.
-
“It’s all about Action Words”. Words similar to established,
generated, managed, created, evaluated, forecasted and designed describe what
you have done.
-
It’s okay to have a resume longer than one page. In the new
labor market, it’s not always possible to keep a resume to the old one page
limit. Do describe your experiences but be concise and on point. A recruiter or
manager doesn’t have time to read a six page resume.
-
Spell check, spell check, spell check. Nothing turns off a
potential employer more than a resume that contains spelling and grammatical
errors. Attention to detail matters.
